Habersham Continues to Blossom Despite the Naysayers

It is so easy to be fall in love with Habersham, one of Beaufort, SC's most sought-after communities. As much as any other community in Beaufort, Habersham has the ability to reach out and really grab you.
Habersham features a river-front pool with viewing tower, a fabulous tennis center, a children's play area constructed of salvaged Redwood trees, oak-lined boulevards, a bustling town center with thriving businesses, and old-style architecture which hearkens back to Beaufort at the turn of the 20th Century.
And yet, many real estate observers predicted doom for Habersham's development team when the neighborhood broke ground in the late-1990s. The reasons among naysayers were --
First of all, Habersham is not too far from downtown Beaufort. It is an easy 12- to 15-minute drive from the neighborhood to Bay Street.
As far as being in the MCAS Beaufort flight path, we refer to those jet sounds as the sound of freedom, thank you, and living near a military installation is not at all like living adjacent to a commercial airport, where air traffic continues at all hours. To be sure, the sound of freedom can be loud at times at Habersham, but you can go months without hearing a plane because of the base's varied training schedule.
As far as the area being just too rural for an upscale development, well, Las Vegas was created in the middle of the desert. So, that obstacle can be overcome.
It is hard to believe that so many people had such a dire outlook for Habersham, because it is truly one of the most vibrant neighborhoods in Beaufort. In addition to the aforementioned amenities, there are almost two dozen community parks, a boat launch, a boat ramp, boat storage, a community pavilion, and a lifestyle that is very easy to grow accustomed to. The community hosts festivals throughout the year, and is home to its own farmers market.
There are currently 49 homes available in Habersham, with a median asking price of $459,000. You can buy a low-maintenance condo/townhome in Habersham for just over $200,000, or you might opt for a 4100-square-foot riverfront home for just under $1.3 million.
If you are searching for a spot to build your future home, interior homesites start at $39,900, and continue up to $599,000 for a homesite overlooking the Broad River.
Please don't hesitate to let us know if you have any questions, or need more information, about Habersham.

- Habersham is just too far from Historic Downtown Beaufort.
- Nobody wants to live in the flight path of Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Beaufort.
- The surrounding area around Habersham is just too rural for an upscale community.
