Beaufort SC's Natural Treasure: Hunting Island State Park

One of the best friends a Beaufort, SC Realtor has is Hunting Island State Park. Talk about a sales tool. Located about 20 minutes east of downtown Beaufort, SC, Hunting Island sports three miles of some of the most unique beach you'll find anywhere in the world. The maritime forest extends all the way to the beach area. In fact, the terrain of the park is so unique that it has doubled for Asian jungle scenery in films such as "Forrest Gump" and "The Jungle Book."
So, we Realtors are very happy to be able to offer this incredible amenity to anyone thinking of either moving to the Beaufort area, or just in town for a visit.
There are miles of walking trails, which can also be used for bicycle use, and one of the top camp grounds in the state.
Most residents of Northern Beaufort County can reach Hunting Island within 25 to 30 minutes. From the base of the "swing" bridge in downtown Beaufort, Hunting Island can be reached in about 20 minutes. Hunting Island features the only lighthouse in South Carolina which is open to the public. And, of course, there are the beaches.
Although we tend to associate the beach with warm weather, Beaufort residents commonly bundle themselves and their children up during the cool of the winter and head east to the park.
Hunting Island is the second of Northern Beaufort County's three "beach" islands when you travel east on Highway 21, and the only one open to the public. Harbor Island and Fripp Island, which sit on either side of Hunting Island, have private beach areas. Make no mistake, though. Residents of Harbor and Fripp Island frequently can be found visiting Hunting Island, because the Harbor and Fripp beaches are nothing like the Hunting Island Beach.
The Friends of Hunting Island have a nice website, if you would like more information.
